El Palmas is the house where Jaume Nunó was born in 1824. In 1991 it was acquired by the City Council and was rebuilt between 1996 and 2010. It is a manor house, of which the arches that they open at noon and in the evening. Under the garden, the remains of an old paraire workshop are preserved, which correspond to the part intended for fabric dyeing. Its reconstruction serves to further tighten the ties between Sant Joan de les Abadesses and the Mexican people and becomes a place of visit for Mexicans who live in our country and those who visit us and, at the same time, allows the town of Sant Joan de les Abadesses continues to have a place, small but endearing, in the history of Mexico thanks to one of her sons, Jaume Nunó.

The reconstruction of the Palmàs has allowed Sant Joan de les Abadesses to have a new public space that should become a meeting point for the different generations and groups of the town and also for visitors: it houses the Casal de Retired and Pensioners, but also has a training center with several classrooms (computer science, workshops...), and a Civic Center with a youth information point. On the top floor is the Jaume Nunó auditorium and a permanent exhibition about the composer and the twinning of our town with San Luís Potosí. In short, a building designed so that people of all ages can enjoy the space that saw the birth of the author of the music of Mexico's national anthem.
